Fairfax, Va. - The National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) is endorsing U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) for re-election in the August 24th Republican Primary.
"Lisa Murkowski's strong commitment to preserving our hunting and shooting heritage has earned her the NRA-PVF's endorsement," said Chris W. Cox, chairman of NRA-PVF. "I have worked with Lisa and know she will continue to fight for and protect the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding gun owners in Alaska and across the United States."
Throughout her tenure in the U.S. Senate, Lisa Murkowski has demonstrated a proven commitment to our Second Amendment rights and hunting heritage. She worked to restore self-defense rights in our nation's capital by cosponsoring and voting for the Ensign Amendment and District of Columbia Personal Protection Act, as well as signing the pro-gun congressional amicus brief to the Supreme Court, supporting our individual Right to Keep and Bear Arms in the Heller case. Most recently, she signed an amicus brief in the McDonald case in which the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment is a fundamental right that applies to all Americans. Sen. Murkowski also signed a letter to Department of the Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, urging the National Park Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to remove their prohibitions on law-abiding citizens carrying and transporting firearms on lands managed by these agencies and subsequently voted to allow law-abiding citizens to carry firearms in national parks and wildlife refuges.
She also voted for the Wicker Amendment, allowing law-abiding citizens the ability to securely transport firearms in checked bags while traveling on Amtrak trains. Additionally, she voted for the Thune-Vitter national Right-to-Carry reciprocity amendment to allow a person with a valid state concealed carry license or permit to carry a concealed firearm in other states. She also cosponsored and supported legislation to force much-needed reform at the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Senator Murkowski's steadfast support for individual gun ownership rights earned her an "A" rating and endorsement from the NRA-PVF.
"Alaskans value their Second Amendment freedoms, and Lisa Murkowski is the clear choice to represent them," Cox concluded. "We ask all Alaska gun-owners, hunters and NRA members to vote for Lisa Murkowski on August 24th."
