Fairfax, Va.— On behalf of our members in Georgia, the National Rifle Association's Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) proudly announces its endorsement of Georgia Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle for governor and Sen. David Shafer for lieutenant governor. Cagle has an “A+” rating based on his more than two decades spent advancing self-defense rights and the interests of gun owners and sportsmen across Georgia. Shafer also has earned an “A+” rating for strong leadership on Second Amendment issues and an unwavering defense of our personal liberties.
“At a time when the five million members of the NRA are under attack like never before, Casey Cagle has very publicly chosen to stand with us,” said NRA-PVF Chairman Chris W.Cox. “Our endorsement reflects Cagle’s unwavering support to advance self-defense rights and the interests of gun owners and sportsmen across Georgia.
“David Shafer has also chosen to stand with the NRA in opposition to those who are blaming law-abiding gun owners for the acts of deranged criminals,” added Cox. “Shafer is a voice for freedom and is a faithful friend to Georgia’s law-abiding gun owners.”
Cagle has been a steadfast supporter of the Second Amendment for more than two decades of public service.
- In 2014, Cagle helped shepherd into law the most comprehensive pro-gun legislation in Georgia’s history that strongly protected self-defense rights, streamlined the concealed carry process, and expanded areas where Georgians may lawfully carry a firearm.
- Cagle was an outspoken supporter of the 2017 Georgia campus carry law, fighting to protect the rights of young men and women to be able to defend themselves.
- Earlier this year, when Delta Airlines ended their relationship with NRA, Cagle was swift to react and ensured the airline did not benefit from the tax base of gun owners in Georgia. Despite intense pressure from the business community, Cagle never wavered, and refused to support tax legislation that would benefit a business who sought to demonize NRA members.
- Cagle firmly opposes gun control efforts such as banning commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms and magazines.
- Cagle believes that law enforcement agencies should prosecute violent criminals who misuse firearms and should protect responsible gun owners and sportsmen in the Commonwealth.
Similarly, Shafer has a long public record of defending our freedoms.
- In 2013, the NRA Institute for Legislative Action awarded Shafer the Defender of Freedom Award for his exemplary commitment to protecting the freedoms of Georgia gun owners, hunters, and sportsmen and displaying strong leadership on Second Amendment issues.
- In 2014, Shafer helped pass the most comprehensive pro-gun legislation in Georgia’s history which strongly protected self-defense rights, streamlined the concealed carry process, and expanded areas where Georgians may lawfully carry a firearm.

"We encourage all NRA members in Georgia to go to the polls and support Casey Cagle and David Shafer in the primary election on Tuesday, May 22, and then to ask their fellow gun owners and sportsmen to do likewise," concluded Cox.
